Redcat's Ascent-32 Gets a V2: Same Micro Scale, Real Upgrades

New ReleaseRedcat RacingRock CrawlerMini/Micro

Redcat's Ascent-32 — a 1/32 scale RTR rock crawler scaled down from the popular Ascent-18 — has only been out for about a year, but Redcat has already replaced it with a V2. The pitch is the same (an affordable, pocket-sized crawler for beginners and families), but the engineering underneath has been reworked based on feedback from the original.

What actually changed

The original Ascent-32 ran on a 1S LiPo and had plenty of charm but not a ton of low-speed control. The V2 switches to a 2S LiPo for more power, adds oil-filled shocks in place of the original's dampers for less bounce and better stability on uneven ground, and uses a lower gear ratio tuned specifically for low-end finesse — the kind of crawling control that matters more than raw speed at this scale.

Redcat also swapped in a three-wire steering servo, which opens up compatibility with a wider range of aftermarket servos, and redesigned the transmission and motor mount to make a future brushless motor swap straightforward for anyone who wants to upgrade later. None of this changes the body style — it's the same classic Ascent-32 look — but there are four new colors (pink, red, blue, and green), all with a flake-free finish that makes them easy to tell apart from the original at a glance.

Still built for beginners

The core formula that made the original approachable is untouched: straight axles with 4-link suspension, full ball bearings, a clipless front-tilt body for quick access to the electronics, and aggressive off-road tires. It ships Ready-to-Run with Redcat's RTX-32 radio, a 2-in-1 ESC/receiver, a LiPo battery, and a USB charger — nothing extra to buy to start driving. Redcat's ongoing partnership with Injora for hop-up parts carries over too, so there's a clear upgrade path if you outgrow the stock setup.

Price and availability

The Ascent-32 V2 is priced at $89.99 — a $10 bump over the original's $79.99 — and is currently in stock in all four colors through both Redcat Racing direct and AMain Hobbies. The original Ascent-32 is sold out across every retailer we track right now, so for the moment the V2 is effectively the only way to get one new.
