Kyosho Brings Back the 1988 Ultima Pro as a 1/10 2WD Buggy Kit

New ReleaseKyoshoBuggyKit

Kyosho has announced a re-release of the Ultima Pro, the 1/10 scale electric 2WD off-road buggy it first sold in 1988. The kit (part #30626) is the 21st entry in Kyosho's Vintage Series and blends the original early and later long-wheelbase versions with a handful of modern updates. Kyosho Japan lists it at 66,000 yen with a December 2026 release; US pricing and availability have not been announced.

What's new

Kyosho describes the kit as a hybrid of the 1988 early model and the 1989 long-wheelbase later model. The body is molded from the same tooling as the original Ultima Pro, and decals are included to recreate the original box-art color scheme.

Updates over the original include a front end that is 20mm wider overall (10mm per side) via longer front lower arms, a wheelbase 10mm longer than the later original, dial-type spring adjustment on the gold anodized oil shocks, turnbuckle links for camber and toe, 2.2-inch wheels, and a nylon rear wing in place of the original polycarbonate one.

Hardware and specs

The chassis pairs a 6061 aluminum main plate with an FRP upper deck, and the shock towers are new FRP parts made for this release. Suspension is double wishbone front and rear, the rear-motor 2WD layout uses a ball differential and universal swing shafts, and the kit is fully bearinged, including the servo saver. Tires are a medium compound up front and soft in the rear, and Kyosho says the rear wheels also fit Optima-series offsets.

Kyosho lists these specs: 379mm length, 250mm width, 140mm height, 280mm wheelbase, 226mm/210mm front/rear track, 8.64:1 gear ratio, and roughly 1,600g ready to run. It takes a 540-class motor. The layout accepts a standard round-cell stick pack sideways, or a shorty pack mounted lengthwise when paired with a low-profile servo.

Price and availability

Kyosho Japan lists the Ultima Pro at 66,000 yen including tax (60,000 yen before tax), with a December 2026 release date and a status of not yet released. Big Squid RC estimated the price at around $420, but that is a currency conversion, not an announced US price. US pricing and a US release date have not been announced.

What you'll need to complete it

This is a build-it-yourself kit. The box includes the chassis parts, a clear body, decals, hex wrenches (1.5/2/2.5mm), a cross wrench, a shock wrench, #200 shock oil, and ball diff grease.

You will need to supply a 2-channel surface radio with one servo, an ESC, a 540-class motor, a battery and charger, transmitter batteries, and body paint. Kyosho lists maximum fitment sizes of 42 x 21 x 38mm for the servo, 45 x 38 x 27mm for the ESC, and 140 x 47.5 x 25mm for the battery (including leads).
