BlackZon Adds a Rally Body to the Vyper Line: Meet the Vyper RX
BlackZon (part of the HPI Racing family of brands) has expanded its 1/16 scale Vyper lineup with a new rally body: the Vyper RX. It shares its shaft-driven 4WD platform with the existing Vyper SC short course truck, but wraps it in a proper rally-car body and comes in both a budget brushed version and a quicker brushless Turbo model.
What's under the body
The Vyper RX is a shaft-driven 4WD rally car built on a composite chassis, with independent double wishbone suspension and aluminum, oil-filled, adjustable coilover shocks at all four corners. The drivetrain gets metal gear differentials front and rear, a metal spur gear, and metal driveshafts — none of the plastic drivetrain parts that tend to be the first thing to break on budget-tier RTRs. A gear cover keeps debris off the spur gear, and steering runs through a dual-point bell crank setup with a servo saver.
Brushed or Turbo
The standard Vyper RX runs a 390 brushed motor and a 7.4V 1600mAh LiPo pack, good for up to 42 km/h (about 26 mph) out of the box, and comes in Green or Blue/Green. It's priced at $119.99.
The Vyper RX Turbo steps up to a 2840 3800Kv brushless motor paired with BlackZon's BL14-200-3S 2-in-1 ESC/receiver, which supports an optional 3S LiPo for a claimed 55 km/h (about 34 mph) — well beyond what most cars at this price point offer. It's available in Red/Orange or Blue/Orange for $164.99. Both versions include BlackZon's 2.4GHz 3-channel transmitter and a USB charger for the included battery.
